 Mainstream Program

One of our goals at the Moog School - Columbia is to prepare our children with hearing loss to successfully enter classes with hearing children when they are ready. As part of the transition from Moog School - Columbia to a mainstream setting, we provide information sessions to our parents. We also offer staff in-service and peer in-service when that is needed.

Staff In-service: A presentation for staff of the receiving school explains hearing loss with a focus on the particular student's loss, the impact on communication and learning, and recommendations for necessary support services and accommodations.

Peer In-service: An in-service for the children in the mainstream class helps them gain an understanding of what it is like to have a hearing loss and provides tips on how to talk to the student in their class who is deaf or hard-of-hearing. The presentation is geared to the children's level, and hands-on activities make this in-service program fun and easy for the children to understand.
